The Christian Endeavor society held its regular meeting at King lake Sunday evening which was followed by a picnic lunch. The editor’s family and Robert
Cunningham motored to Grand Island Sunday to see the Whisker club and
other attractions in that city. Mrs. Arbie Mendenhall arrived Sunday
from California for a visit at the home of her sister, Mrs. W.H. Seeley,
and with other relations. Mr. and Mrs.
Stuart Campbell spend several days in Grand Island attending the
seventy-fifth anniversary celebration of that city on July 4, and 5. Mr. and Mrs. John Todd and John Kruser motored to Shendandoah Sunday, where they met relatives from Tarkio, Mo. Mr. Krusor returned to Tarkio. B.W. Tucker and Miss Marjorie
Tucker returned Friday from Lexington, where they went to attend the
funeral of a niece of Mr. Tucker, who died at that place. Mrs. Frank Lockwood has returned
home from St. Catherine’s hospital, where she recently underwent an
operation for removal of tonsils. She is still confined to her bed. Miss Roma Herrington and Charles Dryer of Chicago came Sunday. Miss Herrington will remain at home during the summer; Mr. Dryer motored back to Chicago Monday. The Christian Endeavor society will hold an ice cream social on the Presbyterian church lawn next Tuesday evening beginning at 8 o’clock. The public is cordially invited. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lockwood, Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Denker , Miss Eleanor McGinness, John Sass and Theo Denker were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Morse on the Fourth.

The second year canning club met at the home of the leader, Mrs. J.D. Woste, Tuesday morning and the first year canning club met at the same place Thursday morning. Both clubs canned beans. The Evening
Bridge club met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Todd Wednesday
evening. Mrs. H.W. Swindle and R.W. Rapp were the prize winners. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Logan of Ruthven, Ia and Miss Emma Reyner of Spencer, Ia, spent the week-end with the Reyner family. All were dinner guests at the O.E. Pritchard home on the Fourth. Mr. and Mrs. B.W. Butler and son left Tuesday on a motor trip to Laramie, Wyo., where they will visit with relatives. Miss Dorothy Lee Still is staying at the Roe home in Bennington during their absence. Mrs. Leonard King entertained at a birthday party in honor of her brother, Valde Buhrig Wednesday evening when four tables were occupied at bridge. Prizes were won by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brookley, high; and Miss Bernice Jacobson and Marvin Moore, low. Russell Sharpe, enlisted in the navy about two weeks ago, was called for duty Wednesday and left Omaha Wednesday night for Mare Island navy yard on the Pacific coast. Russell is a good boy and will make good in the navy, which offers many opportunities for young fellows. The Men’s
Bridge club was entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Bell last
Thursday evening, when prizes were won by H.V. Miller, John C. Bull,
Jack Boggan, Clyde Hollister and Weld Coy. Mrs. Bell served a delicious
lunch. The next meeting will be at the home of William Holling in
Elkhorn next Thursday night. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Goodwin of Kearney arrived here Saturday to spend the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. James Hall. Mrs. Goodwin is a sister of Mrs. Hall. They were accompanied by Mrs. Hall’s mother, Mrs. Arthur Smith of Lexington, and another sister, Mrs. Nellie Mercklin and little son, Bobbie, of Okmulgee, Okla. Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin left for Kearney Monday, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Merckling will remain for a week or so longer.
