August Friedrich Labs was born in Pommern, Germany on November 27, 1867, 
where he was also baptized into the name of the triune god. When a child of
about five years he came to America with his parents Ferdinand Labs and 
Henrietta born Klabunde. They lived in the Bennington area. On May 21, 1882
he was confirmed in the Christian faith in Omaha by Pastor E.J. Frese. On 
October 4, 1891 he was joined in holy wedlock to Martha Prochnow by Paster
Otto Von Gemminger here in Zion Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed
with ten children six of which preceded him in death. In 1930 his wife passed 
away. All his brothers and sisters like wise preceded him in death.

Mr. August Labs farmed with his family in the Elkorn area from which he retired
in 1928. For a time he lived in Millard and the last 11 years of his life he spent
in the Hopper Rest home in Omaha where after being bed-fast for about hte
last six months he fell asleep in Jesus and went to the eternal rest home in
heaven on Saturday December 7, 1957 reaching the ripe old age of 90 years
and 10 days.
